Kimberly Cecil • grade 3, lead teacher

Mrs. Cecil has been teaching at George Crockett Academy for seven years.  She taught fifth grade for five years and is now teaching third grade, which is where she started her teaching career. Mrs. Cecil enjoys teaching and believes that children are individuals with different personalities and different learning styles and she feels it is important to create lessons that allow for these differences.  Mrs. Cecil understands how important it is to make learning hands on and relevant to the children.  She feels it is imperative that students are allowed to work with manipulatives, make discoveries, and develop their own conclusions. If children are allowed to do this, they are more likely to remember the information they learned and it will be more meaningful to them.  Children also need to see that what they are learning is important.  Besides being a classroom teacher, Mrs. Cecil is a lead teacher for the third-fifth grades.  A few of her leadership duties include, mentoring teachers, assisting new teachers with learning and teaching the curriculum, and demonstrating various writing lessons in the classrooms.  She on the School Improvement Team, Accelerated Reader Committee, and is in charge of the AAA Safety Patrol Team Mrs. Cecil received her Baccalaureate of Science in Education from Central Michigan University where she majored in science and minored in English language arts. She is currently working towards her masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix.
