Wow! The end of the school year is here! The final day for students is this Thursday, June 18, 2015. It is very important that the students are here for the last couple days of school as we have a lot of exciting things happening. Tomorrow is Field Day and Thursday is our annual Honor's Ceremony! Students will be dismissed at noon on Thursday. If your student is attending summer school, make sure to turn in their slips to the main office ASAP (if you haven't done so already). Have a great summer and continue to read with your child daily!
George Crockett Academy's annual Candle Ceremony is this Thursday, June 4, 2015. The middle school students will attend this event to watch the eighth graders pass on the leadership of the school to the seventh graders. As the class of 2015 heads towards high school, the class of 2016 will step up to fill their shoes. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. It is frequently a favorite memory of GCA alumni as they look back on the time spent here. As per tradition, following the ceremony the eighth grade will have a luncheon hosted by the seventh graders
Every year, in April, we celebrate Earth Day. Earth Day is an important day because it helps children to understand how to better care for our planet. Yesterday was Earth Day this year and GCA students learned a lot. We talked about recycling, making sure we're not being wasteful, made recycled paper, and Earth Day crowns. At lunch we watched the movie WALL-E which is about a robot left on Earth to clean up the garbage humans created. We also created an Earth Day mural. The students painted their hands with green or blue paint to produce a hand print. Together the hand print make up the globe. This is important because part of our mission statement, here at George Crockett Academy, is to ensure our students are critical thinkers in a global society. Come be a part of the future fun by finding out how you can volunteer; check with your child's teacher or the front office. We would love for you to be part of our global society.
Parent/teacher conferences will be next week on Wednesday (4/1/2015) from 12:15-6:00 p.m. Students will have a half day of classes. Meet with your student's teacher to receive their report card, pick up a M-STEP packet to get all the important information on the assessment you need, and receive a ticket to our cook out (a hot dog, chips and a drink)! Thursday (4/2/2015) will be a full day of school with free dress.
