George Crockett Academy's curriculum is aligned with state standards and includes courses such as English/language arts (reading, writing, grammar and spelling along with phonics in primary grades) science, social studies, math, computers, art, music, library and physical education. The academy uses the Kent County 4 curriculum for English/language arts, science and social studies. A variety of supplemental resources are available to teachers, parents and students. We are an inclusive special education environment with high expectations for all students.

Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS)

"School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is a proactive, team-based framework for creating and sustaining safe and effective schools. Emphasis is placed on prevention of problem behavior, development of
pro-social skills and the use of data-based problem solving for addressing existing behavior concerns. School-wide PBIS increases the capacity of schools to educate all students utilizing research-based school-wide classroom and individualized interventions." (from Michigan Department of Education Implementation Guide 2010 p. vii)

George Crockett Academy uses the three tier model for Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports. Tier 1 is classroom support, tier 2 is individual targeted support and tier 3 is intensive support. See PBIS Tiers.
